Neosporin vs. Polysporin

Neosporin vs. Polysporin

Normally I prefer using Neosporin ointment over any there antibacterial agent but recently I suffered hypersensitivity to neomycin and my doctor advised me to use Polysporin ointment instead. Neosporin ointment contains the active ingredient Bacitracin, Polymyxin B and Neomycin whereas polysporin ointment just contains Polymyxin B and Bacitracin and is completely safe for patients allergic to Neomycin.

Though, they have a different composition both Neosporin and Polysporin performs a similar functions. Both are used for treating open sores and preventing them from getting infected. It also helps in swifter healing of the open wounds.

We have been using Neosporin ointment since ages but few days back when I suffered from a smaal bruised and applied Neosporin, I suffered from swelling and constant irritation which confused me and so I had to consult our family doctor who confirmed that it was an allergic reaction to Neomycin and prescribed using Polysporin now one.

Polysporin ointment also is equally effective but is a little slow in action when compared with Neosporin ointment and for this reason, other members of our family still prefers Neosporin over Polysporin but I have got no other option because of the recent allergic reaction I suffered to the antibacterial agent.

So even today I would prefer using Neosporin over Polysporin but I can’t so I won’t but if you are not sensitive to Neomycin or any other active ingredients present in Neosporin, would recommend it over any other antibacterial agent.
