Active ingredients

·         12.5 mg-Diphenhydramine HCl,

·         125 mg ammon Cl,

·         50 mg Na citrate,

·         1 mgmenthol,

·         5 % alcohol 

Most of the OTC cough medications have been banned in India due to its misuse and mostly alcohol free cough medications are sold over the counter but Benadryl Cough syrup surely is one of these alcohol bases cough syrup which still is available online without any prescription. Though it isn’t as effective as korex or phensydyl but it is better than most other OTC cough medicines. 

Benadryl Cough syrup is used for treating nasal congestion, fever, cough, sneezing, and irritation linked to common cold. 

Just few days back I was down with common cold and whenever I am down with common cold, I normally catch cough and other allergic reactions. AS usual visiting a doctor is not really what I prefer so I went to a pharmacist and after consulting, started using Benadryl Cough syrup. The good thing about the cough medications is you feel better on the very first dose but the negativity lies in the fact that it tends to make you drowsy so it would be recommended to use Benadryl Cough syrup especially at bed time. Avoid taking the medication at peak working hours, while driving or operating heavy machinery.

Tips and warning

·         Avoid Benadryl Cough syrup if you are allergic to any of its active ingredients.

·         In case you are using other OTC medicines, prescribed medicines , herbal pills or dietary supplements, consult a doctor or a pharmacist and let him know of the medications your are using.

·         Discontinue Benadryl Cough syrup in case of any side effects caused.

·         Consult a doctor before using the over the counter cough syrup during pregnancy or breast feeding. It is not recommended to use OTC medicines without consulting a doctor during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Over the counter cough syrup are subject to side effects. Common side effects of Benadryl Cough syrup includes drowsiness, headache, stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, and weakness. Consult a doctor if any of these side effects of Benadryl Cough syrup become bothersome.
